Bloods dominate at Churchill
6km
Andrew Scott (21.02) continued his sensational season to be outright first across the line with a scorching 21.02 for the tough 6km Churchill bush track. Macca (21.34, 1st M40) was 2nd & close behind. Georgina Beech (23.41) flew past me at the finish, while Doug Lee (24.25), was 2nd in the M50 field. The Nickels family swelled the Bloods ranks with Daniel (26.04), Matthew (27.23), David (29.00 & 4th M50) & Simon (31.52), all contributing solid performances. Ross Hendy (29.07, 6th M40), toiled honestly, while club legend & Pres Dave Metherall (29.24, 2nd M60), proved as durable as ever. A big welcome to newcomer, Gines Satchithanandam (30.09), may this be the first of many runs for the Bloods in years to come.
12km
Trav Tremayne (47.49) was 2nd across the line overall, another fine performance, followed by Campbell Graham (49.18, 1st M40) who was 3rd, but left languishing in Trav’s wake. Robyn Millard (54.02, 1st female), works her way back into form, while Coups (56.38, 1st M50), continues his vintage form for 2011. Chris Couper (60.48) performed well over the tough terrain, as did Julianne Macca (64.07, 4th W40). Tony Correll (68.32, 1st M60) & Peter Couper (69.10, 2nd M50) completed a stellar day for the Bloods.
July 2011
Graham Wise Mini Marathons, July 16, 2011
5km; Scotty(16.05) second in the 5km ! Well done mate. Anna Macdonald(21.49), Chris Couper(21.50), big improver, Dave Metherall(22.27), cruising nicely, Dave Nickels(23.56), was flying at the end, Rosco Hendy(24.33), coming into form. 10km; Neil Robertson(36.12), very quick, Doug Lee(40.06), almost smashed 40 Dougie, Paddy Collins(42.48), Stacey Munro(44.35), Julianne Macdonald(48.14), Tori Metherall(54.42). 21.1km; Macca(75.34), I sense a debut marathon coming on Macca, fantastic time. Trav Tremayne(82.48) lean & mean, Stu J(87.54) nice marathon lead up, Campbell (89.17) & Mitch(89.59), Graham survived the wrath of Field Rickards, Robyn Millard(90.48), looking extremely fit, Aaron Petersen(113.16) & Tony Corell(113.23), both enjoyed the long slog around the beautiful Westerfolds Park.
Lodge Handicap 8km & 16km, July 2, 2011
Scotty blistering in the 8km(26.52), along with Neil Robertson(28.21), Doug Lee(31.38), very nice time Dougie, Paddy Collins(33.29), good work. Stacey Munro(36.06), Dave Metherall(36.50), (4th in the handicap), Chris Couper(37.30), Dave Nickels(37.33) & Tori Metherall(45.08), all made the effort & returned very decent results.
In the 16km, Macca(56.51) looked strong, Trav (61.17) & Robyn Millard(65.34) (5th in the handicap), both also very impressive. Stu J(74.49) (after running 8km in the morning), Aaron Petersen(82.21), Julianne Macdonald(86.31) & Greg Bott(86.45) all tackled the longer journey. Well done guys.
June 2011
McPhail Handicap 8km, Yarra Bend, June 11, 2011
Scott's fantastic form continues - 3rd overall (26.42), Len Wicks seconds behind, (26.46). Tessa Craig (28.48), & Caitlin Haala (33.33), both looking very good for the Hearts.
Geelong Relay 5.7km, June 25, 2011
Matthew Bayley placed outright first (17.03), & along with Izzy (18.29), Scotty (18.49) & David Bayley (18.58), combined to place the Bloods second in Div 1. Gass(19.03), Macca(19.23), Adrian Elderhurst(21.52) & Neil Robertson(20.26) made up a very strong OH2, placing 6th in Div1.
We also placed 2nd in Div2, with a team of the Graham brothers, (Campbell(20.55) & Mitch(21.16)), Mikey Harvey(20.17) & Tree Tremayne(20.47). Mike Harvey was the standout.
Bloods placed 5th in Div2 as well, thanks to Doug Lee(22.27), Aaron Peterson(25.10), Stu J(21.12) & Dave Nickels(26.26). Nice one lads.
Tony Corell (28.37), Chris Couper(25.29), Greg Bott(26.35) & Dave Metherall(25.49) brought us up to 5 teams for the mens for the day. Great effort considering the distance to Geelong.
We were also well represented in the women's by Stacey Munro (24.28), Julianne Macdonald (26.26), Robyn Millard (22.35) for OH1 & Tori Metherall(29.49), Brenda Young(26.20) & Caroline O'Brien(36.55) in Hearts OH2.
Thank you very much to all of you for making the journey to Geelong.
Dyson Relay 3.8km, The Tan, June 4th, 2011
Izzy (12.05) & Len Wicks (12.07) (8th recently in Sydney Morning Herald Half Marathon (1hr, 9 mins)), led for the Bloods. Great runs also by an in form Scotty (12.23) & Macca (12.28) (recovering from flu). Gass returning to his usual great form (12.50) & Neil Robertson (13.00), completed a great effort by Bloods team 1.
Hearts team 1 saw fantastic runs by Georgina Beech (14.31) & Kirsten Jackson (14.44). Caitlin Haala (15.19) & Stacey Munro (16.19), also looked very good & auger well for the Hearts in coming events.
Team 2 saw one of the runs of the day - Mikey Harvey (13.36), (off with Trav , along with Steve Hempel to Cairns ironman this week, best of luck lads). Good efforts by brothers Mitch & Campbell Graham (14.01 & 14.04), an extremely solid James McEniry (14.08) & usual great reliable contribution by Stu J. (Who ran 9km’s from home to get to the tan, followed by 9km’s home). Trav (14.39) rounded out team 2. Trav looks at risk of fading away to nothing he’s that lean.
Hearts team 2 had Julianne Macdonald (17.37) leading from the front, Tori Metherall (19.35) her usual relaxed self, & Caroline O’Brien (24.00), making a welcome contribution to our women’s stocks.
Doug Lee (14.28) was the other run of the day, in team 3. Another inspiration this year is Craig Coups (14.56). He’s running way too well & is destroying his handicap. Doc Paddy Collins, (15.10) looks good, Ants Cowan (15.44) remembered his own gear this time unlike at the Jamo, Jesse Moore (15.56) made his one promised run for the year, whilst Rosco Hendy (16.17) eases back into form.
In team 4 we welcomed newcomer Greg Bott (18.23), great to have you on board Greg, Chris Coups (16.07) showed great improvement, David’s Nickels & Metherall (17.14 & 17.18) almost dead heated. Whiskers Tony Correll (18.58) rode in casually on his bike, ran well & just as casually rode off into the sunset.

October 2010
Aths Vic summer track round 2 Frankston October 16th 2010
The second round of interclub saw us venture out to Frankston, braving chilly and windy conditions. It was great to see another handful of new faces making their Haileybury debut. Welcome to the Bloods - Caitlin and Rob Haala, and old boy Roger Boyle. Season debuts also for Neil and Stacey Robertson and Steve Smith.
The women's 800 Anna Macdonald ran valiantly despite carrying a heavy cold. She ran well in a tremendous display of team spirit. Well done Anna. Caitlin Haala debuted, also in the 800. It was reportedly Caitlin's first 800 on the track and she performed beautifully. Great to see two Haileybury girls in an 800, and we will build from here.
The men's 800 saw Josh Maine and Chris Macdonald go around. Josh ran well again this week, and a strong first lap would have been perhaps followed by an even stronger second lap, if not for a 'wardrobe malfunction' 350 metres from home. Double knots next week mate! Well run.
Cross country members Neil and Stacey Robertson leapt right out of their comfort zones, both venturing into the sprinters' realm of the 200m dash. Neil surprised all with a very impressive time, and Stacey also ran well. Progressive coaches around the traps will be taking note of Stacey's patented blocks' technique. Not sighted before today, it was certainly worth seeing. Nice work Robbos!
Roger Boyle made his debut for the club, after a many year absence, since his days as a student of the school . Sadly his 200m was restricted to only a few strides, before he succumbed to the protestations of an unhappy achilles tendon. We hope it's not too serious Roger and that we see you back very soon. Roger has generously offered to act as a team manager during his recovery, which is massively appreciated.
Next event was the men's 4 x 400, and it was great to see us field our first relay team for the year. Josh Maine appeared to be the most confident of starting with blocks, and duly got us away to a swift start, before handing to Chris Macdonald. Robbie Haala backed up from his gutsy 800m run to run a very solid third leg, with Neil Robertson putting his recently displayed 200m speed to great use, running a slashing last leg. 3:52 was a nice result for four distance men (three plus Josh?) running a sprint relay.
Robbie Haala and Chris Macdonald then went around in the 3000. They were able to work together for a large portion of the race, and both finished well inside 10 minutes and in the front half of the field. Steve Smith and Caitlin ran in the next heat of the 3k, and were never separated by more than a few metres, and both surged home strongly at the end, sneaking inside 12 minutes.
All in all, it was a great day. Terrific new faces (Caitlin, Rob and Roger), long awaited returns (Smitty), spectacular sprinting (Neil and Stace), sensational team spirit (Anna) and a couple of spirited performances from Josh Maine, including leading our relay team. Momentum is building and the coming weeks will be even bigger.
A big thanks to Scotty for his brilliant team management all day in horrible arctic conditions. Finally, a special mention to Rob Haala for running three events for the day, and to everybody there for getting in and showing some great spirit.
Go Bloods/Hearts!!
